Hepworth's Hundred Years of Co-operative Adventure

Interesting account of the development and growth of the Hepworth Co-operative Society in the village of Hepworth, West Riding, Yorkshire.  The book contains many useful tables including a list of the first 67 members to join the society during 1840, a roster of the Board of Directors and Officers as of 1841, a list of those who had been members for forty or more years, a full sketch of the village ca1840 and several very good portrait photographs of past Presidents and founding members.



A History of Falkirk

141 pages with table of illustrations, index, sources and a roster of the Provosts of the Burgh from 1833 through May 1975, printed 1975

This was a limited edition print run to mark the dismantling, in May, 1975, of the Falkirk Town Council, which had been in existence since November, 1833.  A copy of this book was presented only to each member and official of the Town Council to remind each of them of the long history of the town and also as a token of the thanks of the Council for their service.  This is an excellent little book covering the founding of the Town during Roman times, through the battles fought at the Town up to the present.  There are numerous illustrations and photographs of the townscape and landmarks as well as three fairly detailed maps laying out the battle plans for each of the Towns military confrontations.

195 pages in as new condition.  Extensive endnotes, a chronology, bibliography and comprehensive index.  A few portraits of some of the more notably familes have been included, printed 1998, ISBN 0750912219.

The women of England played an important part in keeping home and family safe during the turbulent civil wars which rent the fabric of English society between 1642 and 1658.  This book explores the lives of the gentlewomen during that time and their valiant efforts in forestalling the capture of their homesteads.  A very interesting and enlightening read.

In the pages of this book is a thorough and intimate look, from 1832 to 1858, at the life of William Ewart Gladstone, the 31st Prime Minister of Great Britain.  The author founded this biography on several thousands of pieces of personal correspondence, journals, papers and diaries in the collections at Hawarden Castle and in other private hands.
