Why can't I find my surname in the East Kent Families Database?

First, and foremost, the East Kent Families Database is far from being 100% complete. If you click on the link next to the 'Abbott' surname you will find a page that details what parishes and time periods have been integrated in the families' data thus far. Additionally, it may be that your particular family did not stay at one of the parishes to have a baptism, marriage or burial performed.

Second, not all families that are found in the parishes in Parish List 'A' have been tallied yet. Consequently, more surnames are still likely to be added to the tally sheets on this website.

Lastly, have you checked for an alternate spelling of your family surname? While some of the alternate surname spellings are easy to spot and construct, your particular surname may be one of the unusual names that has an entirely different looking alternate. For example, the surname 'Reakes' and 'Wreakes'. In this instance, you would have to check both under the 'R' and 'W' surnames before you could be certain that your surname does not appear in the tally sheets. In most cases of alternate spelling I have tried to include many of the variant spellings as well as offering suggestions to look under a different leading letter for a surname.
