- name of author, editor, compiler - Christian name first - end with a comma
- title of the publication or a ship's name - in italics or underlined. If you start by underlining your first title then keep every title of every source underlined throughout your work. Similarly, if you start by italicizing your first title then keep every title of every source italicized. In other words, the method you use to differentiate the title of a source from the other parts of the citation must remain consistent throughout your work.
- inside round brackets - city and country of publication shown first followed by a colon, then, name of publisher, publisher's fuller address followed by a comma, lastly, year of publication - comma after closing bracket
- edition, volume, page, folio numbers on and in which reference was found - close with a period.
- name and address where the reference work was found, or name and abbreviated address of person who has documents in their possession
- archive classification number or repository's call reference number - Dewey book number or other library numbering system, microfilm or microfiche call numbers
- date and/or year reference was actually made - e.g. date of census return, date of church entry, et cetera
- any additional pertinent information - ISBN and/or ISSN numbers assigned to published books, newspapers, periodicals and serials
- any additional comments concerning the reference source or an extract or abstract of the reference information.
