Research Plans

Are you stuck and need a plan of research to breakdown your brick wall?  Or are you just beginning and not quite sure where to start?  Our Research Plans are structured for your specific research hurdle and will lay out the steps required to get you on track.

Ideal service for novice and amateur genealogists who wish to do their own research but need a guiding light.  Our Research Plans provide step-by-step instructions on what documents are required, where to find them, and points out any potential trouble spots with suggested solutions.

Typically, a Research Plan will provide the necessary information to research up to three generations of two distinct family lines.  Fee includes one hour of review and/or consultation for information gathering as well as preparation of Research Plan.

Consultations

This service was designed for family historians who need practical advice to navigate around research roadblocks and for those who just need to know more about the resources that can help their search.

Consultations can be conducted by email or instant messenger for those who are unable to attend at a personal meeting.  Contact us for more information on how to obtain a consultation.

You will receive a written follow-up to our consultation containing all elements of the advice that was given, suggestions for new avenues to explore, and, if applicable, contact addresses for obtaining records.

Consulting Fee:                     $35.00

Additional information about this service

Research Service

We provide research services for:

	Canadian, British, or American ancestry;
	French Canadian and Metis heritage;
	biographical and historical manuscripts;
	tracing legal heirs;  and,
	immigration purposes.

For all services other than immigration and heir tracing, our clients receive a Research Proposal (see below for details) for approval before any work is started.  We also report monthly with written progress reports and a full accounting of fees and expenses incurred.  A full range of charts, research logs and source citations are prepared, updated monthly as required, and included with the final report on a research project.

The Research Proposal will set out the anticipated fees and out-of-pocket expenses that are likely to be incurred during the research.  See this link for a sample Research Proposal.  The initial segment of research that will be undertaken is a minimum of 3 hours.  Thereafter, you, the client, have the opportunity to limit the research to one or more particular lines of enquiry (based on the research proposal).  Bearing in mind the initial 3-hour minimum research limit, it is not necessary to undertake the remainder of the entire project all at one time.  Additionally, on-going research may be stopped at your request, at any time, for any reason, during the project.  An account would be issued to you and payable for all fees and expenses incurred up to that time.

In order for me to be able to prepare an accurate Research Proposal for you, it is necessary for me to undertake up to 3 hours of preliminary searches.  Due to the time required to complete the preliminary searches I do have to charge a nominal fee equal to 75 minutes worth of research time plus my consultation fee, payable in advance.  Please see the list of fees below.
