Personal Information:  Collection And Use

The goal of this web site is to become your primary destination for genealogically oriented data, information, products and services.  To help us achieve that goal, we need to collect information that will assist us in understanding what services and products will best meet the needs of our consumers.  Accordingly, we will collect two types of information from every web visitor - "anonymous information" and "personal information".

Anonymous information refers to information related to your computer and connection such as your IP address, including whether you are logged on from a .ca, .com, .gov or .edu domain;  referral data such as the address of the last URL you visited prior to logging on to our web site;  and, browser and platform type, such as if you are using a Netscape browser on a Macintosh platform.  We also collect aggregate statistics relating to each page view to gauge the performance of certain areas of our web site.  We collect this information for purpose of product monitoring and continuous web site improvement.  To collect and analyze this information www.ancestrysolutions.com utilizes a log analysis tool.  In future, we may have to combine the log analysis tool with a data-tagging technique.  Data tags would allow us to measure which software plug-ins were being utilized by our visitors, thus resulting in a more efficient and effective web site design.

Users must provide some personal information to us when they register.  Such personal information tells us specifically who you are, such as your name, address and email address.  Registration is required before a user can submit a GEDCOM file or a genealogical data-based web site to us for inclusion on this site, subscribe to certain advice or information services, or to purchase certain products.  Registration is not required for general browing or searches.  Registration requires the user to provide his or her name, mailing address and email address.  This information is used to ensure that users abide by the Conditions of Use.  This information may also be used to inform users about other products, services, activities, and other subjects that may be of interest.

When a user submits a GEDCOM file or genealogical based web site, personal information may be included and made publicly available over www.ancestrysolutions.com.  When users submit personal information, they represent that they have obtained all requisite permissions from all living individuals included in their GEDCOM file or genealogical based web site.  No GEDCOM or web site data will be permitted to be displayed directly on www.ancestrysolutions.com web site if such material contains the names or other details of living individuals irrespective of if permission so to display such information has been obtained.  Additional information is available concerning GEDCOM and genealogical based web site submissions.  A yearly fee will also be levied and payable in advance for the storage of GEDCOM files or genealogical data-based web sites on this web site.

When users request pages from www.ancestrysolutions.com, our server(s) may log their IP address.  This information is used to improve site administration.  This information along with the other personal information listed above can also be used to produce usage statistics to help www.ancestrysolutions.com better meet the needs of users and determine research interests.
