Answers to Genealogy FAQs - Cityark Index

There is a valiant and ongoing effort by a Mrs. Fleming to index the marriages on CityArk with most of Dartford RD completed as well as of the Medway and Hollingbourne RDs courtesy of Allan Beattie. This link will take you to the index of the registration districts:

Medway Ancestors: Index to marriages 1837 - 1911

In the sections that have been indexed a surname index has also been added. Accordingly, if a surname of interest is not included in the index one can rule that area out very quickly as a possible place for a marriage of an ancestor.

The links to completed indexes of a section will no longer open up a PDF file where the events had been more fully indexed. The best solution to finding a date of an event is to search FreeReg.

Once you find an entry on FreeReg you will then be able to go directly to Cityark to retrieve the original image of that event.

I hope this answers your question and perhaps the marriage index can help you as if a marriage took place in a particular area there is the distinct possibility that the couple stayed in that area for part of their married life and you may find children of the couple baptised, married and/or buried in the same register.
