Currently available are births more than 100 years ago; deaths that occurred prior to 1917; while marriages more than 75 years ago are not yet available. Work on the marriage index will commence after the index of deaths has been completed.

Current and non-historical certificates are subject to stringent privacy laws that govern who can apply for birth and marriage certificates. Vital Statistics advises that sources other than civil BMDs should be consulted for genealogical information wherever possible. How to Obtain

* Some BMDs registered starting in 1895 while Saskatchewan was still considered as being in the Northwest Territories. Saskatchewan became a province during 1905 at which time BMDs became the responsibility of the province. BMDs kept more systematically as of 1920 but full registration was not achieved until 1930.
