The information in the following paragraph circumstantially supports a marriage I have today (February 14, 2018) discovered in the parish registers for Christ Church, Canterbury as follows:

"John Hermon of Milton and Mary Preston of Seasalter were married by licence 10 Oct 1709. "

The licence mentioned is NOT an Archdeacon's licence so I will have to dig into perhaps the Allegations. It is not specified which Milton John Hermon was from - Milton-Canterbury or Milton-Sittingbourne.

From the land tax assessments for Faversham it appears that there was one primary Iveson family headed by "widow" Iveson from approximately 1746 onwards. At that time Widow Iveson was shown as landlord of certain property in the town and it is interesting to note that as of 1748 her tenant became one John Herman. John Herman remained in that same property through to 1762. Given that Elizabeth Ivyson married Matthew Herman it is tempting to entertain the idea that Elizabeth had been "widow" Iveson's daughter and Matthew had been John Herman's son, brother or nephew. However, it is equally interesting to note that no assessment, as either landlord or tenant, appears in Faversham for Matthew Herman and his wife, Elizabeth (nee Ivyson). Did this couple live with a relative or did they occupy property that was outside the bailiwick of town assessments, such as manorial property.

The name Herman goes back in Kent to at least 1428 when a messuage in Otford close to Sevenoaks was transferred from John Cotter to Richard Herman [KA ref U1450/T5/41 and U1450/T7/9]
In 1463 another property in Otford next to the Archbishop's house was transferred by Thomas and John Herman the sons of Richard Herman to Thomas Hoo, a pewterer of London, and John Kryth, a tailor of Rainham [ KA ref U1450/T4/14]

In 1477 one Henry Herman appears on a deed pertaining to property in Crayford [KA ref U1450/T5/31, U1450/T5/50, in 1478 U1450/T5/49, in 1479 U1450/T5/51]
In 1483 the same Henry Herman is elevated in status to Esq. when he appears on another deed for property in and around Edenbridge.

In 1584 a certificate of exchange is given by John Child of Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppy, a mariner, whereby he agreed to sell to the Corporation of Queenborough Borough certain lands that lay between the house of Thomas Herman, the town hall, the street and the common. [KA ref Qb/ZB/24]

In 1613 Nicholas Herman was summoned to appear before the Court of Wards and Liveries. [KA U269/O282/6]
This case apparently persisted for some time as in 1625 a letter was sent from Nicholas Herman to Henry Eyre concerning the case. [KAU269/C236]

Then in 1629 this same Nicholas Herman is granted property in Gloucestershire that was to be held in trust for Lionel Cranfield, the 1st Earl of Middlesex [KA U269/T175]

Then, apparently as a reward for long and faithful service this same Nicholas Herman was leased property in Fulham, Middlesex in 1631 by the Cranfield family. He then, in turn, assigned the lease to Joan Greville according to the Earls instructions in 1635. [KAU269/T103]

Nicholas Herman is still operating as agent for the Cranfield family in 1638 when he brings an action against certain people in Kent for cutting underwood and hunting deer on the Earls properties in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

C. P. Addition: Isabel Booth wife of Ralph Neville, 3rd Earl of Westmorland

Douglas Richardson royalancestry@msn.com

11/04/2005

Dear Newsgroup:
Complete Peerage 12 Pt. 2 (1959): 551-552 (sub Westmorland) includes a
good account of the life history of Ralph Neville, 3rd Earl of
Westmorland (died 1499). Regarding his marriage, Complete Peerage
states:

"He married before 20 Feb. 1472/3, Isabel, said to be niece of Lawrence
Booth, Archbishop of York, daughter of Roger Booth, of Sawley, co.
Derby, by Catherine, daughter and heiress of Richard Hatton, of
Aldersey and Mollington, co. Chester. She was buried at Brancepath
aforesaid."

Regarding Earl Ralph's wife Isabel's identity, various visitations and
published sources confirm that she was in fact a Booth. The first
source listed below is dated 1530. Although it was available in print
as early as 1863, it was overlooked by Complete Peerage.

1. Tonge, Vis. of Northern Counties 1530 (Surtees Soc. 41) (1863):
28-29 (Neville pedigree: "Rauff Erle of Westmerland, son of John,
maried the doughter of Bouth").

2. Flower, Vis. of Durham 1575 (1820): 52 (Boothe pedigree: "Isabella
[Boothe], ux. Radulphi, Dom. Nevill.").

3. Flower, Vis. of Yorkshire 1563-4 (H.S.P. 16) (1881): 224-226 (Nevill
pedigree: "Raff Erl of Westmerland son of John. = Mawde doughter of
Roger Bouth, brother to tharcheboshop of Yorke.").

4. Ormerod, Hist. of Chester 2 (1819): 207 (Booth pedigree).

While Complete Peerage gives no particulars of Isabel (Booth) Neville's
life after her marriage, saving her place of burial, the following
record indicates that she was living 20 March 1482/3:

"Feoffment by Ralph Lord Nevyle and Isabel his wife of Robert Both,
dean of the minster of York, master Ralph Both, archdeacon of the
archbishop of York, Richard Both, William Claxton, and Lancelot
Claxton, esquires, of all their lands, etc., in (sic) the hall of
Ovyngton in the vill of Bywell, a tenement in Wakyfeld, next the vill
of Raby, and other lands. [Dated at] Bywell, 20 March 23 Edward IV
[1472/3." END OF QUOTE. [Reference: MSS of the Duke of Rutland, 4
(Hist. MSS Comm. 24) (1905): 87].

We find above that Ralph and Isabel Neville conveyed property in trust
to various trustess, the first three of whom are surnamed Booth, they
all being near relations of Isabel Neville.

For interest's sake, I've listed below the two New World immigrants who
descend from Ralph Neville, 3rd Earl of Westmorland, and his wife,
Isabel Booth:

Philip & Thomas Nelson

Further details regarding Earl Ralph Neville and his wife, Isabel
Booth, can be found in my forthcoming book, Magna Carta Ancestry.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah

On the information from Stephen's marriage, he was of Preston [presumed Preston-next-Faversham] and the fact that after the first child they family moved to Faversham, I am looking at other Collards in that immediate area as being potential relatives, including father and mother.

There is this marriage at Preston

Trying to find anyone who was connected to an Andrew McAloney, who married a Jane Quinn and had a son Andrew born 1903 in Crocknamack, Portrush, Co. Antrim and a daughter Jeannie McAloney born later.
There may be a possible link to an Andrew McAloney, born Londonderry 1877 whose father was James McAloney and mother Mary Carson. My father's (Andrew Mc Aloney) [born 1903 Crocknamack, Portrush, Co. Antrim] middle name was Carson. My father died in Londonderry in 1996. I have one brother called Andrew Ronald and Andrew seems to be a family named handed down through generations. Anyone with any likely links I would like to hear from as I have had no success as yet and am thinking of having the Family History done prefessionally. Thanks

So in 1900 if he was registered, he had to have "lived" for even but a short time. It was extremely sad - in the womb, baby George's elbow had embedded itself into the twin's head and apparently it was severely deformed. The story of this poor baby was told to us by George Junior's ( as I will refer to him as, because it gets confusing) daughter. She said that it was quite openly spoken of - so the child was not " hidden" from the family. But she said it appeared the child was not named. I must apply for the death certificate, as although we believe he was buried in the same little cemetery as the other three children, we are not sure. Babies who were still born or died matters of hours later, were often cremated in the hospital crematorium. The death certificate will of course also give a name if the baby was named. I did look for an autopsy but there is not one.
