- About Mary Jane Hill
Enrolled at Lifton County Primary School, Lifton, Devon in Nov 1871, aged 10 years 6 months, of Lifton Down. Her gravestone in Ford Park Cemetery reads:- "In Loving Memory of Olive Louise, the beloved child of G.F. and M.J. Williams, August 29th, 1896, aged 3 weeks, 4 days. Also Mary Jane, the beloved wife of G.F.Williams, who died April 22nd, 1898, aged 37 years. Also Beatrice Annie the beloved child of G.F. and J.Williams who died August 9th, 1900, aged 3 weeks. Also Gladys Winifred, sister of the above who died January 17th, 1902, aged 4 months and 2 weeks". Grave is 28 rows up, 4 graves in, LHS of path uphill from NW corner of the large vaulted tombs by a large fir tree which itself is NW of the Chapel buildings. Mary Jane was so stricken with the early loss of her child Olive that she visited the grave every day up until her death in April 1898.
Estate £452. Probate to George Frederick Williams licensed-victualler.
