WILLIAM CLATWORTHY.
BY THE REV. WILLIAM S. BESTALL.
The late William Clatworthy, of North Petherton, in the Bridgewater Circuit, was born on July 7th, 1799, and died on September 25th, 1881. He was converted to God in early life, and for upwards of sixty years he 'adorned the doctrine of God our Saviour,' being a faithful Local Preacher and Leader nearly the whole of that period. His religious experience was sound and clear. He was an exemplary Christian, an agreeable and instructive companion, eminent for uprightness and integrity. Those who were long and intimately acquainted with him, bear testimony that he was never observed to be ruffled by pride or anger. Meekness, gentleness, simplicity, resignation and humility were graces which he possessed in a very high degree. In domestic life he was greatly beloved and revered, and leaves behind him a numerous family, all on the side of Christ and devoted to His service, either in this country or in the United States of America. His attachment to the cause of Christ was firm and unwavering; and while death was approaching, his prospects of eternal life became brighter and brighter. He would often say: 'God is love! He is mine; my portion—my satisfying portion.' In this peaceful and holy frame of mind he entered his eternal rest.
